This story has been all over the internet, and it still pains me to read about her. Thank you for taking the time to highlight the deeper questions behind the tragedy instead of reducing it to a headline.

Wow, thank you for putting this into words. I once heard my brother ask that same question, “why doesn’t she just leave,” when referring to a girl in a movie in a similar position. But like you said, it’s not their fault, women have often been painted as docile patient creatures but that label makes women feel like that’s how their worth is defined. Some people feel that sexism doesn’t exist in certain parts of the world and that we’re ahead of the sexism that impeded women for centuries, but how we’re talked to, as if we’re supposed to tolerate abuse is so detrimental in truly being equal.
